History

The IFS has been in existence since 2011 when it was established to promote the study of fungi in Ireland. The IFS holds an annual scientific meeting for researchers involved in the field of mycology to develop collaborations and advance our understanding of fungi for the betterment of Irish Society. The society incorporates a broad spectrum of interests including medical mycology (the study of fungi that cause human disease), fungal biotechnology (the use of fungi and their products in industry) and the use of fungi as model organisms to study biological processes.
