2023 Ken Haynes Awardees

 

The 2023 recipients of the Irish Fungal Society Ken Haynes travel awards were Ozlem Bayram from NUI Maynooth and James Powell from University Hospital Limerick. Below are the details of their travel to conferences:

Ozlem Bayram :

Ozlem participated in the 16th European Conference on Fungal Genetics (ECFG16) from March 5-8, 2023, in Innsbruck, Austria. Ozlem delivered an oral presentation in 6th of March in Concurrent session 2.2 of which the main topic was development and morphogenesis. The title of her talk was “F-box receptor mediated control of substrate stability and subcellular location organizes cellular development of Aspergillus nidulans”. Ozlem also presented a poster related to same topic in 7th of March in the poster session. Attending the ECFG16 provided a great opportunity to meet with fungal researchers all over the world who are expert in their field.

James Powell:

James attended the 33rd European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) in Copenhagen, Denmark, from the 15th to the 17th of April 2023. ECCMID had a huge array of scientific and educational programmes including keynote lectures, oral sessions, educational workshops, open forums, meet-the-expert sessions and a wide range of scientific symposia. James presented two fungal posters:

“Epidemiology of dermatomycoses and onychomycoses in Ireland (2001 to 2020): a single-institution review”

and

“Dermatology mycology diagnostics in Ireland: National deficits of international relevance”
